Marie O'Kroley

COLUMBUS— The world was blessed with the gift of Marie Pauline O’Kroley September 30th, 1938. She was born the 3rd child to Paul and Mary (O’Connell) Weisensel.  She was preceded in death by her brothers John and Giles, and she is survived by her sisters Jane O’Kroley and Margaret Schuster.  Marie married the love of her life David O'Kroley 62 years ago on his 24th birthday August 30th, 1958. Together, they raised and loved two beautiful daughters, Karen Schuetz and Diane Fox and welcomed grandchildren Rob, Melody, Cari, and Charles.

Marie was great-grandmother to Cindee, Micah, and Avery. She treasured her nieces and nephews and all of their families, as well as many special friends and relatives.

As a child of the depression, Marie knew how to save, make-due, and how to make the simplest things “special”.  Her strong work ethic from her days on the family farm carried over to her work as a nanny, clerk, nurse’s aide, and factory worker.  Her loving kindness was noted by her family, friends, and acquaintances.  She loved playing cards, doing puzzles, bird watching, and cooking and caring for others.  She made sure everyone around her was well-fed and well-loved.  Marie taught by example how to listen, how to love, and how to forgive.

Those who knew her as a young woman would say she was a “fiery red head!”  She never turned down a ride on a motorcycle with David in their youth! Over time, her hair color, like her demeanor, mellowed to a sweet strawberry blonde.  The twinkle in her eye and delightful giggle will always be remembered.

Marie’s family will hold a private service at Sun Prairie Memory Gardens. Her family wishes to thank Agrace Hospice Care Fitchburg, Prairie Ridge Health in Columbus, and Meadows in Fall River for their care and compassion.
