Sun Prairie - Marie Kathryn Schmelzer, age 83, passed away at home surrounded by her loving family after a long illness. She was born December 31, 1929 in Avoca the daughter of Homer and Isabella (O'Brien) Kosharek. Marie graduated from Avoca High School and was united in marriage to Patrick Laverne Schmelzer on March 27, 1951. She was a homemaker who loved raising her seven children, spending time with her family and especially her precious grandchildren and great grandchildren and the occasional casino trips.
Marie is survived by her children, Rick (Pam) Schmelzer of Sun Prairie, Linda Bollig of Sun Prairie, Ken Schmelzer of Madison, Karen (Duane Tamminga) Schmelzer of DeForest, Jerry (MaryBeth Haynes) Schmelzer of DeForest, Michael Schmelzer of Sun Prairie and Nancy (Gary) Schmelzer-Scott of Sun Prairie; grandchildren, Matt, Jason (Vesa), Crystal (Justin), Kelly (Justin), Chad (Erica), Ryan (Morgan), Candice (David), Kassi (Daniel), Jessica, MiKayla and Nick and thirteen great grandchildren all who held a very special place in Grandma's heart. She is also survived by her brothers, Delbert Kosharek of Muscoda, and David Kosharek of Madison; brother-in-laws, Msgr. Delbert Schmelzer of Madison, Jake (Rosemary) Schmelzer of Highland; sister-in-laws, Darlene Schmelzer of Madison, LaVon Vorndran of Black Earth, Suzette Yager of Mineral point, Patsy Pustina of Highland and many nieces and nephews.
Marie was preceded in death by her husband Patrick, parents, son-in-law Doug Bollig, brothers-in law Bob Schmelzer, Louie Yager and Norbert Pustina, sisters-in-law Bonnie Kosharek and Marjorie Kosharek.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at SACRED HEARTS OF JESUS AND MARY CATHOLIC CHURCH, 221 Columbus St., Sun Prairie on Saturday, August 17, 2013, at 11:30 a.m with Msgr Delbert Schmelzer presiding and Msgr. Duane Moellenberndt and Father Vincent Brewer concelebrating. A visitation will be held at CRESS FUNERAL HOME, 1310 Emerald Terrace, Sun Prairie, on Friday, August 16, 2013, from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. with a 7:00 p.m. vigil service. A visitation will be at church on Saturday from 10:30 a.m. until time of Mass. Burial will be at Sacred Heart's Cemetery, Sun Prairie.
In lieu of flowers memorials to Agrace Hospice or Sacred Hearts Cemetery Association would be appreciated. The family would like to thank St. Mary's Hospital and Agrace Hospice for their compassion and loving care. We will love and hold you in our hearts forever.
