With great sadness the family of Marie E. (Blevins) Tanner announces that she passed away on October 18, 2022 in Madison. Marie was an intrepid soul and will be missed by all who knew and loved her.
Marie was preceded in death by her beloved husband, William D. “Dub” Tanner, and her siblings Wesley, Miles and Jay Blevins and Mamie Johnson and Maxine Yblood. She is survived by three nephews, Larry (Kris) Blevins, Mark (Darlene) Yblood and Mike (Marty) Blevins. She is also survived by her son, Terry (Elke) Tanner, Sr., Barbara Tanner, grandchildren Theresa (Troy) Rogers, Terry Tanner, Jr., Christiane Tanner and Christoph (Alexis) Tanner; five great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren.
Marie was born in 1929, in Seminole, Oklahoma, and grew up with her family in a farming community in that area. She moved to Oklahoma City and became a financial officer at Liberty National Bank and Trust Company in Oklahoma City in 1952 and was employed there for a number of years. She and Dub married in November 1959 and they left Oklahoma a short time after that to start a business and make their home in Madison, Wisconsin, where they spent the rest of their lives. Marie worked alongside Dub as he started up his business in Madison. Dub and she were active members of the West Side Businessmen’s Association and Marie was president of the Association’s Auxiliary for several terms. Marie was also very active in the Metropolitan Women’s Club and served as president in 1996-97. Marie became an extraordinarily successful Mary Kay Cosmetics distributor and received numerous rewards for her outstanding achievements.
Marie enjoyed life. She and Dub were avid golfers. She had two precious dachshunds, first Tami, then Mitzi, both of whom she adored. She had a contagious laugh, an abiding love of family and friends, a fierce sense of independence and a remarkable devotion to her husband, Dub. She and Dub enjoyed traveling and especially entertaining, everything from elegant dinners to theme parties calling for elaborate and entertaining costumes. Marie created many lovely ceramic figures and she enjoyed designing and creating home décor. Her home was always lovely and inviting.
