MADISON -- Marie Bickmann Warner, age 83, died on Sunday, May 10, 2009, at UW Hospital, Madison. Marie was born on June 2, 1925 in Brooklyn, New York, the daughter of William J. and Agnes Marie (Donnelly) Bickmann. After graduating from Dominican Commercial High School, she landed a job on Wall Street. She married Robert George Mettauer, and together they raised four daughters. She attended Hofstra College and worked at Huntington Hospital, both on Long Island, later starting a billing service for anesthesiologists. Marie relocated to California and settled in Santa Maria, where she met and married Ogden Marsh Warner. After Ogden's death, she moved to Madison, Wisconsin and worked at Madison Public Library. An avid jazz enthusiast, Marie belonged to the Madison Jazz Society and participated in UW Madison's PLATO program, attending and teaching jazz, film and historical classes. She is survived by her daughters, Laura Mettauer of Grand Junction, CO, Lisa (Jim Tomich) Mettauer and Janice (Bill Colby) Mettauer of Madison, and Patrice Mettauer of Nottingham, NH; 6 grandchildren; 4 great grandchildren; siblings, Bill and Veronica Bickmann of Bellerose, NY, Joseph (Virginia) Bickmann, Agnes Maher of Oceanside, NY, and Eleanor (James) Flannery of Wilmington, NC. In addition to her parents and her husband, she was preceded in death by her brother, Leroy Bickmann. A reception celebrating her life will be held on Wednesday, May 13, 2009 from 4:00 until 7:00 pm at Cress Funeral Home, 6021 University Avenue, Madison. She will be buried next to her beloved husband, Ogden, in Pinelawn Memorial Park and Cemetery in Suffolk County, New York. In lieu of flowers, please make donations to the Madison Jazz Society in Marie's name.
