Marie Ziegler

November 15, 1919 — February 16, 2018

WAUNAKEE- Marie G. Ziegler, age 98 died peacefully on Feb. 16, 2018 at Waunakee Manor. She was born in the Town of Springfield on Nov. 15, 1919, the daughter of Ludwig and Catherine (Noltner) Endres. She married Raymond J. Ziegler (1918-1993) on April 13, 1944. Together they farmed and raised their family in Waunakee.

Marie was a woman of short stature but she was mighty in spirit. She was a determined person, hardworking, a person of great faith, kind, honest and very generous. Prior to the past several years, on any given day you would have found her gardening, baking, tending to her many orchids, cracking hickory nuts, sewing or reading. She was always busy. For entertainment she loved playing cards, attending church events and participating in her quilt group. As a person who believed in being generous with her time, she sewed mittens for the less fortunate, volunteered countless hours at St. John the Baptist Church, crocheted baptismal blankets and more. Until months before living there, Marie volunteered at Waunakee Manor with staff members who later became her care providers.

Those who knew Marie during her cake-baking era surely remember the fabulous wedding cakes she made for family and friends. Her grandchildren fondly remember visiting and being able to eat leftover icing and not-so-perfect roses. They also have great memories of being treated to their favorite Christmas cookies and candies. But best of all were Marie's homemade pies, the expected dessert at family celebrations. Through the years many were donated for local bake sales.

Marie loved spending time with her family and preparing endless amounts of food for family and holiday events. She especially treasured the times her grandchildren and great-grandchildren visited her.

Marie is survived by her children, Annette (Kevin) Bollig, Lawrence, and Elizabeth (Charles) Cleary; 9 grandchildren, Brian Ziegler, Brad Ziegler, Brenda Hayko, Angela Deutsch, Shaun R. Bollig, Megan Bluma, Tim Cleary, Adam Cleary and Erin Cleary; 14 great-grandchildren; daughter-in-law Linda; sister, Dorothy Hellenbrand; brother, Vincent Endres (Lorraine); and sisters-in- law, Lucille Endres, Jeanette Ziegler, Jane Vosen, and Mary Ellen Acker.

She is preceded in death by her husband, Raymond J. Ziegler; son, Robert M Ziegler; parents and in-laws, Math and Anna Ziegler; sisters, Elizabeth Ziegler (Theodore) and Loretta Karls (Joseph); brothers, Joseph Endres (Betty), Donald Endres, and David Endres (Mary); sisters-in-law, Marcella Ziegler, Charolette Wagner (John), Eleanor Lauber (Ted), and Evie Reinke (Alden); brothers-in-law, Albin Ziegler (Dorothy), Vincent Ziegler, Leo D Ziegler, Louis Ziegler, Harold Hellenbrand, and Bud Vosen.

Funeral Services will be held on Saturday, Feb. 24, 2018 at 11:00 a.m. at St John's Catholic Church, 209 South St., Waunakee. Msgr. James Gunn will officiate. Friends may call at the church on Saturday from 9:00 a.m. until the time of services. Burial will take place in the church cemetery.

Annette, Liz and Larry feel fortunate to have had a mother for so many years, and especially one who had so many talents to share. We wish to thank the staff at Waunakee Manor for the endless and thoughtful care they provided over the past 3 years and especially in the past week. Also, a special thank you to the many family members and friends who assisted when Mom was in her home; with visits, rides to church and social events. We are so grateful to you.
