Marion W. Moore

Marion W. Moore, age 84, passed away Wednesday, November 8, 2023 at home with his wife by his side after a battle with cancer. Marion was born in Duquesne, Pennsylvania, on March 23, 1939, the son of Woody and Alice (Smith) Moore. He was the 3rd oldest of 13 children. Marion married Debra Ziegler on June 24, 1983 in Madison and they celebrated their 40th wedding anniversary this past summer.

Marion played basketball and football during high school and then went on to Jackson State College with a scholarship for basketball. After graduating with his bachelors in Education he began his 32 year career as an Educator, Coach and Administrator starting at Anderson Community School, Indiana, followed by Lincoln Elementray School, MMSD for 10 years and then retired from Cherokee Heights Middle School, MMSD after 18 years with them.

Marion loved the outdoors and enjoyed fishing, hunting and he especially had a passion for playing golf.

Marion is survived by his wife Debi, son, Damon Leek, grandson, Damon Leek, Jr., bonus granddaughter, Parker, brother, Woody (Trula) Moore, sister-in-law, Lil Moore, sisters; Edith Spaulding, Mary Robinson, Inez (Tom) Jenkins, Barcinna (Frank) Boles, Linda (Dennis) Sammartin, brother, Boyd Moore, along with many nieces and nephews that affectionately called him Uncle Preach and Uncle Moe.

He is preceded in death by his parents, father and mother-in-law, Werner and Evelyn Ziegler, sister, Lydia Hale, brothers; John, Melcher, William and Richard Moore. Brothers-in-law; Timothy Hale, Fred Spaulding, and Bill Robinson.

A very special thank you is extended to those that gave Marion special care over this past year - Dr Mullvain, Dr Kruser, Agrace staff and the SSM Health Infusion nurses, especially Mindy and Megan.

A celebration of Marion's life will be held on Friday, December 1, 2023 from 2pm until 5pm with a reception to follow at the Cress Center, 6021 University Ave. Madison, WI 53705.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Marion's name to SSM Health Cancer Center or Agrace Hospice.
