Marion Raether

VERONA
Marion Raether passed away peacefully on February 15, 2018 at Noel Manor. She was born on April 14, 1915, in the township of Milford, the last of five children to Anna (Moll) and Edward Altenburg. Marion was united in marriage to Gilbert Raether on June 14, 1941, at the Mamre Moravian Church in the Township of Watertown. Gilbert and Marion moved to Madison in 1943 where they became active members of the Glenwood Moravian Church, Madison. Besides being a homemaker and mother, Marion worked for the Rennebohm Drug Stores and commissary for many years. She enjoyed quilting, crocheting, crafts, baking and gardening. Marion made afghans and quilts for everyone in her family, completing her final quilt at the age of 100.

Marion is survived by her children, Jerry (Patti) Raether of Cottage Grove and Luann (Alfred) Bennin of Verona; grandchildren Cheryl (Rodney) Nellen, Greg Raether, Lisa (Kevin) Hughes, Julie (Geno) Schroeder and David (Jennifer) Bennin; 14 great-grandchildren and 3 great-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Gilbert, on June 4, 1998; three sisters, Lillian Mohr, Elda Langholff, Laura Loeder; brother, Arnie Altenburg; her grandson, Jeff Raether and great-grandson, Trevor Nellen.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, February 24, at the Cress Funeral Home, 3610 Speedway Road, Madison, WI. The Rev. David Hoffelt will officiate. A visitation will be held from 10:00 a.m. until the time of service. Burial will take place at the Rock Lake Cemetery in Lake Mills, WI following the service and luncheon. Memorials may be made to the Glenwood Moravian Church in Madison.
