Deerfield -- Marion Simonson, age 87, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, June 1, 2010, at The Hospice Center in Fitchburg. She was born on November 15, 1922 to Morris and Lillian (Kingland) Gangstad in Deerfield. She graduated from Deerfield high School. In 1946 she married Lloyd G. Simonson.
Marion worked at Ray-o-Vac and for the WI State Department. She and Lloyd owned and operated The Triangle Inn in Deerfield during the 1950's Later they also owned and operated the Shamrock Bar in Madison for more than 20 years.
Marion was a devoted mother to her daughter Judy. She was a wonderful cook and hostess, her warm smile and attention to detail always made visitors feel welcome. Marion enjoyed bowling, golfing, winters in Florida and going to Badger and Packer football games. She cherished visits with her friends at Deerfield High School Reunion lunches. She and Lloyd were members of the Cambridge Country Club for more than 40 years. She was a life-long member of St. Paul Liberty Lutheran Church in Deerfield,
Marion is survived by her brother, Lowell (Leila) Gangstad of Northwood, IA; a sister-in-law, Eldora Gangstad of Deerfield, her dear friend Bernice Wedvick; several cousins, nieces and nephews.
Marion was preceded in death by her parents, and her husband, Lloyd, her daughter, Judy Kay, brother, Hamlin Gangstad and brother and sister-in-law, Alden and Edna Gangstad.
Funeral services will be held at ST. PAUL'S LIBERTY LUTHERAN CHURCH, 3494 Oak Park Rd., Deerfield, on Friday, June 4, 2010, at 11:00 a.m. with Pastor Dan Anderson officiating. Burial will follow at Hauge Cemetery in Deerfield. Visitation will be held at the church on Friday, from 10:00 a.m. until time of service.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Liberty Lutheran Church in Deerfield
