Marion was born on May 6, 1922 in Scottsville, Kentucky to the late Phillip Maynard and Mary Myrtle Byrn. Most of her childhood was spent in Gallatin, Tennessee. On July 22, 1950, she married Arthur MacDonald Tobias. He preceded her in death on May 8, 1993. She was also preceded in death by her sister Brodie Bates Shaw, and her brother James Beverly Byrn, both of Tennessee.
Marion is survived by two daughters, Theresa McIlroy (Daniel) of Sun Prairie, Phyllis Jordan of Seattle, Washington, and a son Mark Tobias and his special friend Sharon Roche of Long Valley, New Jersey. Marion is also survived by four grandsons, Daniel (Lyra) Trapp; Marc, Shaun and Mikail Tobias; great grandson Aiden Trapp and many nieces and nephews. She is also survived by her sister Dorothy Spence of Alton, Illinois.
Marion spent most of her life raising her family and working for AT&T in various locations throughout her career until her retirement in 1989. She belonged to Our Saviors Lutheran Church in Sun Prairie for 46 years. In retirement, she enjoyed tending her garden, crocheting numerous afghans for family members, playing Bridge with her friends, contributing volunteer time to the AT&T Pioneers, and participating in The Church Owls. She enjoyed traveling and made numerous trips to visit her son and his family in Scotland and England while they were living there. One thing most people don't know about Marion is that she played the piano and had a wonderful singing voice.
A special thank you to her long-time doctor, Dr. Michael Aughey, for the great care and compassion he gave her over the years. And thank you to the Hospice Team who tended her needs with a kind and caring attitude for the last two months. Hospice Care truly is a gift.
On Wednesday, August 17th at Our Saviors Lutheran Church, 550 Lincoln Drive, Sun Prairie, friends may greet the family from 4:00 - 5:30 followed by a memorial service and light dinner. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Marion's name to Our Savior's Lutheran Church, the Sun Prairie Public Library Foundation or Hospice Care Inc. in Fitchburg.
