Marion Fleming Weber

SUN PRAIRIE WEBER, MARION Marion Fleming Weber, age 87, passed away January 1, 2009.  Marion was born November 24, 1921, in New Iberia, Louisiana.  She graduated from the University of Southwestern Louisiana in 1944 as valedictorian and with a B.S. in Home Economics and Chemistry.  From 1944-45, she served as instructor of chemistry at her alma mater.  She then attended the Pennsylvania State University as a graduate assistant as was awarded an M.S. degree in Textile Chemistry and Clothing in 1947.  She became Assistant Professor of Textiles and Clothing at the Louisiana State University.   In 1949, she married Robert L. Weber, Associate Professor of Physics at Penn State and made State College, Pennsylvania her home.  She joined the faculty of the Penn State College of Home Economics in 1963 as a part time instructor and coordinator of the Annual Spring Weekend.  From 1966 until her retirement in 1983, she served as assistant to the Dean in the Office of the Associate Dean for Undergraduate Instruction in the College of Human Development.  Her professional and honorary memberships included American Home Economics Association, Omicron Nu, Home Economics Honorary Society, Phi Kappa Phi, and honorary membership in Iota Sigma Pi and Sigma Delta Epsilon.  She also received the outstanding alumnae award from the University of Southwestern Louisiana.  Marion was active in community organizations.  She served on the Board of Directors of the League of Women Voters, the Friends of the Penn State Museum of Art.  She was also active in the American Association of University Women (AAUW).  Marion moved to Oakwood Village East, in Madison, in 2002.  The family would like to express deepest thanks to the wonderful staff there who cared for her and to the Hospice workers who enabled her to stay in familiar surroundings until the end. She is survived by her son Robert Fleming Weber, daughter-in-law Anne, and grandchildren Alexandra, James, and Katja of Sun Prairie, Wisconsin, and two daughters, Meredith Anne Weber of State College and Ruth Eaton Weber of Arlington, Virginia.  She was preceded in death by her husband, Robert L.
