Marjorie Louise Flagel

Marjorie (Margie) Louise Flagel (aged 81) passed away on March 13, 2024 at the Oregon Health Care and Rehab Center. She was the daughter of Donald and Edith (Harris) Gurius and born in Maquoketa, Iowa. She married Duane Flagel in 1960 and moved to Wisconsin Rapids where she lived for many years until moving to the Madison area in the 1980s.

Margie had many skills. She was excellent at typing and word processing.  Her career involved various secretarial and administrative assistant roles. Later in her career she worked both at the UW Medical School and the UW School of Veterinary Medicine doing medical transcription.

Her faith in God helped her overcome many health and substance abuse challenges. She liked to use a couple different phrases: “Everything is under control” and “I love you”, the latter lavished on health care workers, store clerks, friends, and family.

Margie was an animal lover, especially cats. Her last cat, Zoe, brought her great joy and comfort. In her retirement years she spent time on many of her artistic passions – crocheting, drawing, painting ceramics, needlepoint – to name a few.

Margie is survived by her daughters Nancy (Edward) Jorgensen and Laurie (Donald) Dean, four grandchildren - Brian Dean, Melissa (Derek) Schwenn, Benjamin Jorgensen, Nathan Jorgensen, and two great grandchildren – Lillian Schwenn and Raegan Schwenn. She is also survived by a cousin Billie Casey and her former husband Duane (Gail) Flagel.

A memorial service will be held on April 6, 2024 at CRESS FUNERAL HOME (3610 Speedway Road, Madison, WI) with visitation from 2:00 PM to 4:00PM and the service to follow.

In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made to the National Alliance on Mental Health or Westwood Christian Church.
