Marjorie Jean Gaarder passed away Monday, October 3, 2011 at age 87. She was born November 1, 1923 the daughter of the late Lenus and Marie (Hanson) Lundmark. She was a veteran of the United States Navy having served during WWII. In 1946, Marjorie was united in marriage to Richard Gaarder for 61 wonderful years. He preceded her in death on September 18, 2007. Marjorie lived in various cities in the Midwest, but was a longtime Madison resident. She worked as a secretary for law firms in Woodstock, IL, Kenosha, and Madison. In May of 2010, she was given the Sheriff's Citizens Award for her contributions to the Dane County K9 Unit. Marjorie was a member of Midvale Community Lutheran in Madison. She was an avid Wisconsin sports fan and especially loved watching the Brewers. Go Brewers!
Marjorie is survived by her daughter and two sons: Lynn Satterlee of Gratiot, WI, Jon (Sheila) of Exton, PA, and Peter (Kristi) of Madison; grandsons: Jon (Arayna) Satterlee, Ryan, Colin, and Axel Gaarder; great-grandson, Derek Stib and great-granddaughter, Trina Satterlee.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, and several siblings.
A memorial service with military honors will be held at 11 am on Saturday, October 8, 2011 at Cress Funeral Home, 6021 University Ave. Madison with Rev. Bruce Loewenhagen officiating. Family will greet friends from 10:30 a.m. until the time of service. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to: William S. Middleton Memorial Veterans Hospital, Attn: Voluntary Services, 2500 Overlook Ter., Madison, WI 53705.
