McFarland- Mark W. Kanvik was taken from this earth prematurely when he suffered a massive heart attack on Tuesday March 6, 2012. He was born on March 23, 1955 in Madison. Mark was the youngest of six children born to Karl and Phyllis (Warner) Kanvik. He attended McFarland schools and participated in jazz band and football during high school. After high school Mark joined the U.S. Army and spent 7 years as a paratrooper, many of those years in Padova, Italy. When he returned from the Army Mark used the building skills he'd learned from his father and grandfather and began working for Gannon Construction. Over the years he gained expertise in home building and energy efficiency and began his own business, Nook & Cranny Home Inspection. Mark was a certified building inspector and energy auditor. Because of his knowledge and the meticulous care he took in building, many people sought him out for his guidance and expertise. Mark was able to fix just about anything. His woodworking was exquisite. Mark enjoyed the joy of a simple life and would think nothing of taking time from his work to help a neighbor. He loved to fish and build just about anything out of wood. He was gentle and kind and loved by many. Mark is survived by his life partner, Trudy Brule; brothers, John (Beverly) and Jim (Judy); sisters, Sandy (Ken) Grant, Trudy (Ralph) Stroede and Marta (William) Teletzke. He was preceded in death by his parents. A gathering of family and friends will be held from 4:00 PM until 7:00 PM on Monday, March 12, 2012 at Cress Funeral Home in McFarland. In lieu of flowers please send donations to Trudy Brule in Mark's memory.
