Mark Thompson

July 13, 1952 — October 10, 2011

Madison - Mark Edward Thompson, age 59, son of Frances Thompson and the late Lyle Thompson, died unexpectedly at home on Monday, October 10, 2011.
Mark was born a twin on July 13, 1952, at St. Mary's Hospital in Madison. His sister, Mary Ellen, died at birth. He grew up in the Mt. Horeb area, spending his early years in a small house in the country near Barneveld. Mark attended his first year of school in a one-room schoolhouse built on his grandparents' land, then moved with his family to Mt. Horeb where he graduated from Mt. Horeb High School in 1970. He attended UW-Whitewater for a year.
Mark began working for Kalscheurs Fine Foods in Mt. Horeb as a stocker and delivery person in 1971. When Kalscheurs became Miller and Sons in 2009, Mark was working as a manager, a position he held at the time of his death. Throughout his 40 years at Kalscheurs and Miller and Sons, the people Mark worked with and served became his second family.
Mark loved life and was happiest spending time with family and friends. His acts of kindness touched many people. Mark's sensitivity towards others' feelings also extended to the animal world. He and his dog, Calvin, encountered many people on their daily walks around the neighborhood.
Mark was an avid sports fan who was a loyal follower of the Wisconsin Badgers, Green Bay Packers, and Milwaukee Brewers.
Mark leaves behind his mother Frances; sisters, Sue Brink (Steve), Hazel Green and Jackie Thompson, Portsmouth, NH; and brother, Larry Thompson, Madison; as well as six nieces; one nephew; six great nieces/nephews; and many relatives and friends. He is also survived by his beloved dog Calvin.
Mark was preceded in death by his father Lyle; twin sister Mary Ellen; nephew Michael Brink; and his grandparents, Frank and Rose Bongard and Lawrence and Rosa Thompson.
