Stoughton- Marvin C. Hawkinson, age 73, passed away unexpectedly at the Stoughton Hospital on Tuesday, September 15, 2009. He was born in Stoughton on March 2, 1936 a son of the late Lyman Sr. and Christine (Moen) Hawkinson. Marvin was a graduate of the Stoughton Schools. He was a life long member of the First Lutheran Church of Stoughton and a member of the American Lutheran Church in Sun City, AZ. Marv married the former Beverly Johnson on July 13, 1957. He worked for the Thermogas Company for 34 years, the first four years as a salesman in Madison and then managed plants at Boscobel and Madison until his retirement in 1996. Marv previously worked for the Western Electric Company. While in Boscobel he served on the city council and St. John's Lutheran Church council and was a member of the Chamber of Commerce. Marv participated in three sports in Stoughton high school and enjoyed playing in the Hometown talent baseball league for several years. He and Bev spent their winters in Sun City, AZ since 1996. Marv is survived by his wife, Beverly, of 52 years; a daughter, Lonna (Stewart) Ramsey of Clarksville, TN; a son, Lee (Michelle) Hawkinson of Sun Prairie; six grandchildren, Adam, Ben, Anna and Hope Ramsey and Krystina and Forrest Hawkinson. Further survived by two sisters, Jeanette Hoveland and Marion Shriver, both of Stoughton; two brothers, Lyman (Pat) Hawkinson and Phillip (Carol) Hawkinson, both of Stoughton; sister-in-laws, Ann Hawkinson of Stoughton, Irene Hawkinson of Wisconsin Rapids, Donna Hawkinson of Stoughton and Lorraine Johnson of Deerfield; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; four brothers, Lloyd, Harlow, Roger and Donald; a sister, Lorraine Frame; and brother-in-laws, Milo Hoveland, Lyle Shriver, Art Frame, Orlow Johnson and John Sveum; and sister-in-law, Audrey Sveum. Memorial services will be held at 11:00 AM on Friday, September 18, 2009 at First Lutheran Church, 310 E. Washington Street, Stoughton, with Rev. Bill Lehman officiating. Friends may greet the family from 10:00 AM until the time of service at church on Friday. A celebration of Marvin's life will be held at a later date to be announced by the family. Those wishing to express sympathy, the family would appreciate memorials in lieu of flowers to the Stoughton Food Pantry and Stoughton EMS.
