Selvig, Marvin Dewitt
VERONA/ STOUGHTON/ MADISON - Marvin Dewitt Selvig was born Feb. 20, 1921, to Marvin G and Mildred Bernice (Stockwell) Selvig. He passed into eternal life Aug. 17, 2011. Marvin was a gentle man, dignified in stature, strong in Christian faith and Spirit led during his lifetime. These attributes were evidenced by all who knew and loved him.
He married his childhood sweetheart Jacqueline Mann on Feb. 14, 1942, and they had seven children. During World War II Marvin served as Company Commander in the South Pacific and Korea. His family moved frequently with employment in Insurance Sales and Management. After retirement he worked with Lutheran Social Services and was a group home "Father" to troubled teens and those struggling with mental illness. He retired from there at the age of 83. He met and married Janice (Bruni) Oimoen in 1989. They enjoyed their years of dancing together, traveling together and cherished moments with family. With Marvin's six children and Janice's four children their family was a sizable one. Marvin is survived by his caring wife, Janice; his children, Susan (Richard) Albright, Toni (John) Penny, Cynthia Clifton (Gary Staehli), Deborah (Larry) Shell, Lori Burchard and James J. Selvig; 19 grandchildren; 33 great-grandchildren; his stepchildren, Robert (Shirley) Oimoen, Jeffrey (Victoria) Oimoen, Randell (Lisa) Oimoen and Lisa (Greg) Miller; their 11 grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren; and brother-in-law, Ronald (Lavonne) Bruni. He was preceded in death by his former wife, Jacqueline Mann; his mother and father; son, David George; brothers, George and David Selvig; and son-in-law, Carl (Bubba) Burchard. Marvin was a very loving father, husband, "gramps," grandpa, uncle and friend. He will be dearly missed by his wife, Janice, children and their families and all who knew him. A special thank you to HospiceCare and Chaplin Annette Cleary. Memorial services will be held at 11:00 am on Monday, August 22, 2011 at the Cress Funeral Home in Stoughton. Burial will take place in September at Fort Snelling National Cemetery in Minnesota. The family will greet friends at the funeral home on Monday from 10:00 am until the time of service. Memorials may be made to the Dane County Veterans Service Office.
