Marvin S. Unger, age 83 of Waunakee, died on Wed Sept 28, 2011 at a Madison Hospital following a brief illness. He was born on Aug 18, 1928 in Pennsylvania to Harrison and Anna (Smith) Unger. He served in the Navy from 1946 to 1949 aboard the USS Fresno. He married the former Charlene Endres in 1950 and she preceded him in death in 2000. Marv played baseball for Waunakee and was known as "Waunakee's finest catcher". He was employed at Oscar Mayer for 41 years and owned and operated the Char-Mar Bar and Grill with his wife for a number of years. Following retirement he was employed at Harris Pharmacy in Waunakee. Survivors include his four daughters; Jean (John) Radermacher, Jane (Bill) Steinle, Jenny (Mike) Miller, Jill (special friend Pat) Puterbaugh; one son Jeff (Mary) Unger; 15 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his wife Charlene, a special friend Shirley Madigan and 11 brothers and sisters. Funeral services will be held on Monday Oct 3, 2011 at 3:00 p.m. at St John's Catholic Church 209 South St Waunakee. Friends may call on Sunday Oct 2, 2011 from 1:00 to 4:00 p.m. at the Winn-Cress Funeral Home in Waunakee. Friends may also call at the church on Monday from 2:00 p.m. until the time of services. Burial will take place in the church cemetery. A celebration of Marv's life will follow at Rex's Innkeeper in Waunakee following the graveside service into the evening hours.
