Agee, Mary Elizabeth Hangen died February 2, 2010 in Middleton, WI.

Mary was born June 6, 1921 in Wellington, KS. She was the only child of Ralph & Leona (Stultz) Hangen.

Mary graduated from the University of Wichita in 1943 with a degree in Liberal Arts in Science. She worked as a medical technologist during WWII at Walter Reed Hospital in Washington, D.C.  Mary and Miles were married in 1946 after Miles returned from the war. The couple moved to Manhattan, KS where Miles obtained his veterinary degree and Mary taught laboratory techniques to veterinary students at Kansas State University.  They moved from Kansas to Chilton, WI in 1951 with their 2 children and set up a veterinary practice. In 1967, now with 5 children, they moved to Madison where Miles obtained a PhD from UW Madison.  In 1973 they moved to Chapel Hill, NC where Miles worked as an Industrial Veterinarian for Burroughs-Wellcome, and Mary worked for Quintiles, Inc. performing medical data collection. Miles died in 1988, after which Mary retired and moved to Middleton, WI, closer to 3 of her children.  She enjoyed feeding the birds, watching sports and keeping tabs on her kids and grandkids.

The family gives heartfelt thanks to the caregivers and staff at Attic Angel Place for the kind and respectful care they provided her with over the last 3 1/2 years of her life and to Dr. Jeanne Howard for providing care with grace and humor to a person who insisted on reading the data sheet for any recommended medication.

A gathering in her memory will be held in the Quiet Room at Attic Angel Place, 8301 West Old Sauk Rd, Middleton, WI, on Wednesday, Feb 10th from 2:30-6pm with a reading at 4:30pm.

We will all miss her common sense, wisdom and sense of humor.  In lieu of flowers a donation may be made, in her name, to the Arthritis Foundation, Attic Angel Place or The Haw River Assembly (hawriver.org)
