Mary Elizabeth ""Betty"" Beckman

Born in Alhambra, Illinois to William and Rose Beckman. Mary graduated from Highland High School. She received her RN from Washington University. As a nursing student she joined the US Cadet Nursing Corps, after graduating, she served as a member of the Army
Nurse Corps assigned to the Army Occupation in England and Germany.
She returned to Washington University to receive her BSN. Mary was employed at St. Louis Children's Hospital where she became Director of Nursing Service. She obtained a MSN in Pediatrics from the University of Wisconsin. Mary worked for the Wisconsin Division of Health as the coordinator of the Pediatric Nursing Program and then was employed as a Maternal and Child Health Nursing consultant, retiring in 1982. In her retirement she volunteered for HospiceCare Inc. and was honored with the ""Light Up A Life"" award in 1989. She was a member of First Congregational Church in Madison where she held leadership positions and was an active volunteer. Mary was an avid sports enthusiast supporting UW football, basketball and volleyball. But her favorite team throughout her life was the St. Louis Cardinals. Mary was preceded in death by her brother William and recently her sister, Edith. Surviving family is niece Bonnie Anderson, grand nephew Ryan and his wife Jen, grand niece Brett, nephew Mike Hagan and his wife Donna. Once you met her, you never forgot her. She will be remembered by many and loved by all. A Memorial service will be held at 2:30 pm on Saturday,May 7th at Oakwood Village, 6205 Mineral Point Road, Madison, Wisconsin, with visitation from 1pm until the time of service. Donations may be sent to HospiceCare Inc. or Oakwood Village.
