Madison - Mary Louise Buchner, passed away on April 7, 2017 at Agrace HospiceCare after a courageous battle with abdominal cancer.
Mary was born in Dodgeville on February 26, 1945, the daughter of Paul and Barbara (Tremaine) Buchner. Mary attended and graduated from Wyoming Valley grade school, the only elementary school designed by Frank Lloyd Wright. She graduated from high school in 1963 in the first graduating class from River Valley. She attended Madison Academy of Cosmetology, graduating in June, 1964. She attended MATC, graduating in 1967. Mary worked at UW Extension for over 30 years.
Mary enjoyed traveling: the highlight of her travels was a trip to Israel in 2000; watching UW football and men's basketball games; reading and volunteering at First Methodist Church and Independent Living.
Mary is survived by her sister, Beverly; nephews, David and Bruce (DeeAnn); three grand-nieces, Cheyenne, Heather and Malyssa; and one grand-nephew, Damon; one great-niece and one great-nephew. She is further survived by many cousins and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Paul and Barbara Buchner; a sister, Barbara Ann; and nephew, Mark.
The family wishes to thank the staff at Agrace HospiceCare for their compassionate care; Doctors David Melnick and Rodney Heggeman and the staff at Meriter Hospital for their kind and dedicated care. Mary greatly appreciated the special visits, calls, cards and prayers from friends and relatives; and visits from Jim Ostrander and Reverend Mark Fowler for their unconditional and uplifting support.
A Celebration of Life will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, April 22, 2017 at CRESS FUNERAL HOME, 3610 Speedway Road, with a visitation from 1:00 p.m. until the time of service. Inurnment will be at Good Shepherd Columbarium, 7291 County Road PD in Verona.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to First Methodist Church Food Pantry, 206 Wisconsin Avenue, Madison, WI 53703.
