Mary Ellen Burns

Mary Ellen Anderson Burns, age 78, passed away peacefully on Saturday, February 7, 2009 at Oakwood Village West.   She was born the daughter of Roy and Alice (Boll) Anderson on August 9, 1930 in Weyerhaeuser, Wisconsin.   She was united in marriage to Robert O. Burns on June 30, 1953 in Virginia.   Mary graduated from the University of Wisconsin, Madison in 1957 with a degree in nursing.   She was employed as a registered nurse for 10 years.   Mary loved to spend time with her family.   She enjoyed family camping trips with her brothers and sisters to Peninsula State Park in Door County.   She was a devoted and loving mother and grandmother.   She was a very active church member at University United Methodist Church, and served as church treasurer.   She is survived by her loving husband of 55 years,   Dr. Robert O. Burns, her devoted children; John A. (Tonie) Burns, McFarland, Ellen S. (Hisanori) Yaegashi-Burns, Tokyo, Japan, Robert R. Burns, Madison,  and Carrie L. (Brock) Dockter, New Glarus, cherished grandchildren; Rainge and Cole Dockter, Kenta and Ayana Yaegashi, and Jesse, Remington, and Mary Burns.   Mary was preceded in death by her parents; Roy and Alice Anderson.   A visitation will be held from 4:00 pm until 7:00 pm on Tuesday, February 10, 2009 at CRESS FUNERAL HOME, 3610 Speedway Rd., Madison, WI.   A Memorial Celebration of Mary's life will be held at 10:30 am on Wednesday, February 11, 2009 at UNIVERSITY UNITED METHODIST CHURCH,   1127 University Ave., Madison, WI.   The family would like to thank the staff of Oakwood Village West for their loving and compassionate care.
