COTTAGE GROVE-Mary Margaret Williams Dushack died on Monday, May 20, 2019 at Oak Park Nursing Home from complications of multiple medical issues.
She was born on January 16, 1945, the daughter of James and Delia, (Lynch) Williams. Mary graduated from Madison East in 1963. She worked for the State of Wisconsin until she was united in marriage to John Stang Dushack on January 23, 1965 at St. Bernard's church in Madison. They were married for 39 years, raising three children. They also owned and operated the Woods Sunrise Tavern in Sun Prairie for many years.
Mary loved being a grandparent and was very involved with her grandchildren, spending countless hours playing tea parties, dressing American Girl dolls in different outfits, taking fun trips to McDonalds and being active and present for school activities and sports.
Mary enjoyed reading mystery novels, working jigsaw and crossword puzzles, watching movies and was passionate about the Green Bay Packers. She was never opposed to a casino trip or purchasing scratch-off lottery tickets. Christmas was her favorite time of the year, and she would spend weeks setting up her Christmas village and decorating her home in preparation for the holidays.
In 2006, due to declining health, Mary moved into her daughter and son-in-law's home in Cottage Grove. She loved her morning routine of being able to sit out on the front porch where the neighbor boy would bring her the newspaper, and she could sip her coffee and feed the pond fish.
In recent years, Mary was content to take long rides in the car, sitting and visiting with family, binge-watching Netflix and being satisfied with a quiet and humble life. She rarely complained about her complex medical problems and handled them with a grace and dignity which is now rarely seen.
Mary is survived by her children John (Karen) Dushack, Susan (David) Viken and Steven Dushack; three grandchildren Chad Larson, Jacob Dushack and Gabriella Viken; sister Ruth (Gordon) Dunn; and sisters-in-law Joyce Wagner, Suze (Cletus) Haag, Liz (Brian) Georgi, Jerri (Gary) Schwenn, and Toni Seltzner. She was preceded in death by her husband in 2004; her parents; in-laws Jack and Elinor Dushack; brother Leroy Williams and his wife Marcia; nephew Greg Haag; sister-in-law Joann Jordan and her husband Alvin; brothers-in-law Alan Dushack, Louie Dushack, and Leon Wagner; and niece Denise, (Case) Jordan.
The family wishes to express gratitude to the entire Oak Park staff and Heartland Hospice for their compassion and care for Mary in the past 7 months along with Dr. Robert Boyle with Internal Medicine, Jessica with Neurology, Dr. Al-Niaimi with Oncology, Dr. Singer with Cardiology, St. Mary's Hospital of Madison and all the friends and family that supported Mary and her family for so long.
Mary was deeply grateful to her son-in law-David and grandchildren Chad and Gabriella for their never-ending patience, kindness, and help with her care over the years.
