ACKER, MARY ELLEN

MIDDLETON-Mary Ellen Acker, age 76, left this Earth on Sunday, July 3, 2016, at Agrace Hospice Care in Fitchburg, surrounded by her family after a brief and courageous fight with cancer. Mary Ellen was born in Waunakee on June 6, 1940, to Andrew and Clara Marie (Herricks) Derra. She was employed for 20 years with New York Life. Active in the choir, she was a longtime member of St. Bernard's Catholic Church in Middleton. Mary Ellen attended UW-Madison, leaving to take care of her family when her mother died. She was a supportive mother and friend. Her passions were music and theatre. Mary Ellen also loved to read, shop and listen to country music.

Survivors include her children; Lisa (Doug) Olson, Mark (Becky) Acker and Scott Acker; four grandchildren, Ashley (fianc�e, Tony Knutson), Kelly, Brandon Acker and Alexis Argall; a sister, Rita Federer; and a brother, Joe (Karyl) Derra.

Funeral services will be held at ST. JOHN THE BAPTIST CATHOLIC CHURCH, 209 South St., Waunakee, at 11:00 A.M. on Friday, July 8, 2016. Friends may call at the church from 9:30 a.m. until the time of services on Friday. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
