Mary Kraak

Mary Virginia Kraak, age 95 passed away peacefully in her childhood home on Wednesday, July 27, 2022.  She was born on January 20, 1927, in Madison, the daughter of Matthias J. and Anastasia C. (Doyle) Lynaugh.  She married Marion J. Kraak on October 20, 1951.

Because Mary valued her family above all else, she worked as a night operator with Telephone Answering Service for 28 years, enabling her to be home during the day to provide a loving and safe home for her children and any other child that needed a haven.  She was an avid genealogist from age 18, she loved traveling, crocheting, taking care of her pets, and doting on her grandchildren.

She is survived by her six children: Ann Windell of Madison, Bridget (Ed.) Grindle of Middleton, John Kraak of Fall River, Thomas Kraak (Kathy Hendricksen) of Arlington Heights, IL, Margaret Kraak (Mark Vanderhei) of Columbia, MD, and Sarah Kraak-Ripple (David Ripple) of Madison, numerous grandchildren, nieces, and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, two brothers (Matthias “Little Matt” and Kevin), a sister-in-law (Mary) and a son-in-law (Randy Windell).

A visitation will be held at 10 a.m. on August 16, 2022, at Cress Funeral and Cremation Service, 3610 Speedway Road, Madison with a service beginning at 11 a.m. Father Rich Litzau will be officiating.  Burial will follow the service at Resurrection Cemetery.
