Mary Kruschek

Mary Ann (Duerst) Kruschek of Waunakee, WI passed away Wednesday, April 5, 2023. She was born November 9, 1939 in Berlin, WI, daughter of Hervey and Katherine (Skibba) Duerst. She married Gervase Kruschek on January 30, 1960.

Mary loved talking with people and spent a long career in retail sales, starting when she was a teenager at Manchester’s. She left retail to raise her four children. She served as a Cub Scout Den Mother and enjoyed taking pictures, playing piano, and doing many craft projects. As her children grew older, she returned to retail at Bormann’s in Monona and worked her way up to manager at the Sun Prairie store, and later in Middleton. She then worked for many years at Target. She enjoyed a long retirement with her husband Gerry on the Kruschek family farm in Waunakee caring for grandchildren and studying the family genealogy.

She was preceded in death by her parents and husband. She is survived by her sister Joan Duerst, a Dominican Sister, her children: Joseph (Mary Aaroen) Kruschek, Kristin Mikkelson, David Kruschek, and Michael (Elizabeth Janney) Kruschek, and grandchildren: Jacob Stark, Trevor Kruschek, Taylor (Kruschek) Flentje, Calen Mikkelson, Magdalyn Kruschek, and Nadia Kruschek.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, April 15, 2023 at St. John the Baptist, 209 South Street, Waunakee. The visitation will be from 9:30 a.m. until the time of Mass. Burial will be in the parish cemetery followed by a reception at Rex’s Innkeeper, Waunakee.
