Sun Prairie - Mary L Sies, passed away unexpectedly on November 24, 2024, after a brief illness. Born on April 17, 1965, Mary was the youngest of the six children born to Harold and Eileen Grimm. Aside from being a free spirit, Mary was just a purely happy person. She aways managed a smile and a laugh and was willing to hand out big hugs and inspiration to anybody she felt needed one. Her natural optimism was infectious and in a world with too much negativity, she was refreshing. She gained a keen interest in traveling from an early age, rambling around the United States with her parents in their motorhome. Once she met her husband Doug, he became a willing hostage in many of the journeys around the Country. As her parents aged Mary and Doug became the navigators instead of just passengers. Many laughs and warm memories ensued until her parents’ travel years ended.
Being freed from the motorhome Mary and Doug became world travelers and visited many distant lands. Doug once told Mary he saw no need to visit Europe, he would ultimately visit eight times. When Doug couldn’t make a trip, it wasn’t unusual for Mary and her sister LeeAnn to travel. Sometimes mother Eileen would go with and on occasion with the right opportunity Mary would travel with her youngest brother Ray. She loved the road and the adventure awaiting in new places around the world. Armed with a Fine Arts degree most trips included museums and art galleries and always interesting foods and good beverages.
After Mary and Doug married, they started their own business with Mary’s oldest brother Jim and called the new venture Sies Grimm Technical Services. They succeeded and eveloped a solid reputation around the Midwest in electronic door systems. Before long retirement was calling Doug away to his musical passion and the business was sold. Mary enjoyed many years of retirement bliss and continued travels. She developed many interests that involved nights out to hear Doug’s bands play, garlic gardening, canning, baking bread and helping her mother at the Red Barn in Sun Prairie. Mary couldn’t avoid the bargains contained inside a thrift store and was known to make phone calls to her family at any given time to ask if they were still collecting this certain type of glass or that type of furniture. Always looking for a bargain.
It is with sad hearts, and the knowledge that so many more years should have been lived, that we say goodbye to our sweet and loving wife, sister, mother, daughter, aunt and grandmother (Mimi). Mary is survived by Doug and his two children Jeremy and Mandi, grandchildren Ashleigh, Isabella, and Sophia, her brothers Jim (Lori), Tom, Pat and Ray (Kristina) and her favorite sister LeeAnn, Doug’s brothers and sisters, many nieces and nephews and her two loving dogs Gabriel and Finn. Failing to mention her very tight group of friends including Mary Jablonski, Mary Rindo, Mary Marks, Mary Obey (the “Marys”), Linda McCreery, Teri Van Tassel, Terri and Carlos Posadas, Ed Crowley, Craig Tiedemann, “Doc” Grenia and Teresa Lien as well as the many couples who were travel companions….would be failing to recognize who Mary was in general. She had friends and they were friends for life. We all loved her as completely as she loved us and will miss her until we are all reunited one day in the company of our Lord.
Mary was preceded in death by her parents Harold and Eileen, sister-in-law Patty Grimm, and Doug’s parents Roland and Janice Sies. Peace Mary.
