Mary Lund

June 24, 1923 — October 30, 2011

Madison - Mary Paul Lund, first born of Lynn "Chum" and Adah Paul, her life began on June 24, 1923 in Laona, WI. Her formative years were spent with her sister, Ellen, and brother, Jim "Jimmy" in Crandon, WI in their home above the family grocery store.

After graduation from Crandon High School, it was off to the races: Lawrence College, UW-Madison School of Nursing, marriage to William R. Lund, home on Winslow Lane in Madison, mother of Lynn Marie, John Robert, Mariel Ann. A move to their Highland home, Crestwood School for the kids and then a new baby brother, Paul Andrew. Life was good: home-made bread, chocolate chip cookies, applesauce, family trips to Crandon and Florida to visit grandparents. Family meals at 5:30, sewing clothes for Lynn and Mariel and later, a return to her nursing career kept her busy and happy. Mary was very proud of her nursing career for good reason. She was a valued colleague and mentor to many. Mary was a long time member and alter flower maven of Asbury Methodist Church. Throughout her life, Mary continued to correspond with many friends far and wide from her high school mates in Crandon to friends in India, Pakistan, Japan and people in places between.

It was her belief (and wish in her final days) that she would be reunited with her family and friends who have passed before her including her parents, Chum and Adah; brother, Jimmy (MIA in WWII); sister,
Ellen Cary (Alan, Brian and Kim); first grandson, Louie and many close life-time friends.

Family was the center of her universe. Before her final wish was granted, she said this to all of her children, "Thank you, I am so lucky and I love you". This sums up our mom's life. She was kind, grateful and compassionate. Her quiet, gentle spirit and her blue eyes and warm smile will be deeply missed.

At Mary's request, no formal services will be held. A celebration of her life will be held next summer. A sincere thank you to the Oakwood Village staff. Memorials can be made to Oakwood Village Retirement Community, 6205 Mineral Point Road, Madison, WI 53705 or Agrace HospiceCare, 5395 E. Cheryl Parkway, Madison, WI 5371.
