Mary Ellen Nemec, age 82, of Madison passed away on Thursday, October 1, 2020. She was born on June 18, 1938 in Janesville to the late Martin and Myrtle Radue.
Mary Ellen grew up on a farm in rural Marshfield, Wisconsin; she loved helping on the farm so much that after she finished college, got married and had children, she still went back on weekends to help her parents. Being raised on a farm, everyday having a purpose; it gave her an amazing work ethic that stayed with her until she took her last breath. She graduated from Marshfield High School in 1956, went on to become an LPN after attending school in Neenah, Wisconsin. Mary Ellen began working in Madison in 1958 where she met the love of her life, Doli Nemec. After they were married, Mary Ellen and Doli began starting their family, she worked as a LPN until 1966, she then went on to be co-business owner with Doli and was a stay at home mom in the 1970’s. Mary Ellen went back into the work force in the 1980’s; working in the hospitality business. One of Mary Ellen’s proudest moments was when she became a grandmother to her wonderful grandsons. She always was a huge part of their lives, helping raise them. They were her true pride and joy. When her grandsons went on to have children and made her a great grandma; she was beyond excited. Mary Ellen’s great-grandsons brought the brightest twinkle to her eyes and she loved every moment that she had with them. She would often sub for others to deliver the Madison State Journal until 2002 when she took on her own routes. Mary Ellen delivered her last paper September 29, 2020, just 2 days before she passed away. She enjoyed going to the plant every night to see and talk with friends, fellow carriers, and drivers.

Beloved sister of Betty Jane Mueller and Arla Mae (Lewis) Zielsdorf. Sister-in-law of Dolores Nemec and Delano Nemec. Niece of Erna Kemps.
