Mary Peterson

June 4, 1934 — November 8, 2015

Madison - Mary Lou Peterson passed away quietly in her sleep Sunday morning after complications from stroke. She was surrounded by her loving family.

Mary Lou was born in Ridgeway to Harold and Shirley Strutt. Several years after the death of her father her mother remarried a Dodgeville bachelor named Donald Peterson and eventually moved to the family farm in Dodgeville. It was through her step family that she met her husband, Douglas of nearly fifty years.

A graduate of the UW- Madison, she was a school teacher in the Madison School system for 38 years and served as Director of Local Materials creating programs for children all around Wisconsin.

Mary Lou was a wonderful cook, a fabulous mother and grandmother and a devoted friend to the many people that loved her. She was a weekly visitor to Dodgeville to see her Mother and help with the Family farm.

She is survived by her son Douglas J. and Mary of Madison and her grandchildren, Mark (Brittney), Christina (Daniel) and Kelsey, her brother Donald Strutt (Joanne) of McGregor, IA and Family and her brother Bill Strutt (Judy) of Adams/Friendship, WI and Family.

A visitation will be held from 4-7 p.m. on Friday, November 13, 2015 at CRESS FUNERAL HOME, 3610 Speedway Road, Madison. A funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, November 14, 2015 at CRESS FUNERAL HOME, 3610 Speedway Road, with a visitation one hour prior to the service. Burial will follow at Sunset Memory Gardens.
