Mary Alice Pickert, age 85, passed away on Friday, August 4, 2017. She was born on January 16, 1932 in Chicago, IL to the late John and Mae (Kearns) Madden. She married Harold Pickert on May 23, 1959 in Chicago, IL.
Mary Alice grew up in Chicago, IL and graduated from Longwood Academy and Chicago Teachers College. She taught in the Chicago Public Schools and upon moving to the Minocqua area, served many years at the Minocqua Public Library as the Children's Librarian and Assistant Director where she was remembered for creating the popular summer story hour program. She was a founding member of the BPW, a local professional women's group, as well as a member of the Lakeland Genealogical Society where she enjoyed researching her Irish ancestry. Not to be forgotten was her cherished role as mother and grandmother.
Always one to make new friends. She will be sorely missed by all.
Mary Alice is survived by her children: David (Mary Wagner) of Chicago, IL, Jeffrey (Elizabeth Ahearn) of Peterborough, NH, Gregory (Laurie Russell Pickert) of Shoreview, MN, Lorraine Pickert of Verona, WI and Julia (Chris) Hopp of Verona, WI; her five grandchildren: Matthew, Liliana, Logan, Owen, Sophia, and was excited to soon welcome a sixth. She was preceded in death by her husband, Harold R. Pickert.
Services will be held at Noon on Friday, August 11, 2017 at Holy Sepulchre Cemetery Chapel, 6001 W. 111th Street, Alsip, IL 60803. In lieu of other expressions of sympathy, donations may be made to Agrace Hospice Care, Inc., 5395 E. Cheryl Parkway, Fitchburg, WI 53711.
