Mary Schiltz

September 20, 1928 — June 24, 2014

MADISON - Mary Suzanne Schiltz, age 85, passed away Tuesday, June 24, 2014 at Agrace HospiceCare surrounded by her family.

She was born in LaCrosse on September 20, 1928, affectionately known as "Muddsy", to the late William F. and Christina A. (Jonus) Netzer. She graduated with honors from Aquinas High School and later attended LaCrosse State College. She had many jobs including working in the Art Department at Trane Company; following her move to Madison, she worked at IBM, Oscar Mayer, Sweeny Brothers and later as the Proprietor of Schiltz Properties.
She met Cecil Jerome Schiltz at a Knights of Columbus Holiday Dance, on a blind date set up by her sister-in-law, (the late) Edie (Bill) Netzer. They married the following April.

Mary was an avid sports fan, mostly Packers, Brewers, Badgers, and of course, any teams her grandchildren were on. She coached baseball (the first female boy's baseball coach!) for three years. She loved golfing with her family, sewing costumes, yard work and especially enjoyed babysitting for "the loves of her life", her grandchildren. The holidays were especially important to her and she took great joy in decorating her home.

Mary is survived by her two children, Greg (Laura), and Laurie (Tim) Roberts; grandchildren Nicholas, Megan (Daniel) Vosters, and Stefan Schiltz, Brent, Kyle and Eric Roberts; sisters-in-law, Nancy Netzer, Pat Schiltz, Milda Wardenburg, and Harriet Stapleton; brother-in-law, Wyman Hilbert; and numerous beloved nieces and nephews.

She is preceded in death by her parents, husband, Cecil; brothers William and Joseph Netzer; sisters, Alice Hilbert and Rosie DeJarlais; brothers-in-law, Matt and Eugene Schiltz; sisters-in-law Phyllis Bakkum, Mary Anne Logan; Kay and Mary Schiltz.

Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. on Saturday, June 28, 2014 at Cress Funeral Home, 3610 Speedway Rd, Madison. Family will greet friends after 11 a.m. until the time of service. Burial will follow in Resurrection Catholic Cemetery. In lieu of other expressions of sympathy, donations may be made to Agrace HospiceCare, Inc. or Henry Vilas Zoo.
