Middleton - Mary Phyllis Uminski, age 96, passed away on Saturday, May 26, 2018 at Agrace HospiceCare surrounded by her family. She was born on May 10, 1922 in Benton, Wis., the daughter of William and Lottie (Raine) Uren. She married Boleslaw "Bill" Uminski March 2, 1945 in Trenton, New Jersey.
Phyllis grew up on a farm in Fennimore. Her father inspired her to be a teacher so she went to college at UW-Platteville. She began her teaching career in rural schools during World War II. She would go on to receive her B.S. degree in 1966. In her leisure time, Phyllis enjoyed her flower gardening, reading, knitting and crocheting. Phyllis and Bill would travel extensively in Europe including the Eastern block countries, except Russia. Has also been to Iceland, Mexico, Canada, Australia, New Zealand and all 50 states. Her favorite trip was sailing in the Virgin Islands in 1996.
She is survived by her children, Cynthia (Bob) Polan, Dan (Becky Schollian) Uminski, and Deb (David) Weber; 10 grandchildren, Jennifer, Jessica, Joe, Joanie, Bryan, Jeff, Brooke, Billy, Julie, and Katie; 14 great grandchildren, Kaden, Landen, Jase, Finn, Evie Sue, Hattie Sue, Olivia, Avery, Graysen, Jolan, Kaelyn, Andrew, Brylie, and Reese, She is also survived by her brother, Dale Uren; many nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Phyllis was preceded in death by her parents; husband Bill; brothers, Douglas and Donald Uren; sister, Jane Schweitzer; daughter, Wendy Harris; grandchild, Rachel Burkhalter; and daughter-in-law Susan Uminski.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, May 30, 2018 at Middleton Community Church, 645 Schewe Road, Middleton. Visitation will be held from 10 a.m. until the time of service at church. Family and friends are invited to a meal immediately following the services. She will be laid to rest next to her husband at the Prairie Cemetery in Fennimore, Wisconsin.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made out to SMILES, Agrace HospiceCare, MOM Middleton Outreach Ministries, and Camp Balsams.
