Mary Ann Breunig, age 88, passed away on July 3, 2022, at Homestead Living in Waunakee. She was born November 19, 1933, to Werner and Mary (Koch) Wipperfurth. Mary Ann grew up on the family farm outside of Waunakee, the youngest of 4 children. She graduated from Waunakee High School in 1952. After graduating, she worked as a secretary at USAFI in downtown Madison. On October 22, 1955, Mary Ann married Richard “Dick” Ripp upon his return from military service in Korea. Mary Ann and Dick had 3 children: Rick, Laurie, and Mike. She went back to work as an administrative assistant for Central Wisconsin Center after the children were all in school. Together, Dick and Mary Ann owned Holt Products Company, a wholesale distributor of animal health products for livestock. Dick passed away unexpectedly in 1984. Mary Ann met Stan Breunig through the introduction of a friend. They were married April 6, 1991 and had many good years together. Stan stood by Mary Ann with unwavering devotion through her struggle with Alzheimer’s.
Mary Ann was very active and enjoyed cards, bowling, golf, crafting and travel. She was an excellent Euchre player and loved to win! She loved spending time with her family at her cottage in Wild Rose, WI. In later years, she and Stan spent winters at their condo in St. Pete Beach, FL, where they made many new friends.
Mary Ann is survived by her husband, Stan Breunig; sons, Rick (Jean) Ripp, Mike (Joanie) Ripp; son-in-law, Mike Maly; stepsons, Randy Breunig, Ross (Julie Thompson) Breunig; grandchildren, Pat (Deb Cooper) Ripp, Pam (Chris) Schmitz, Paul (Rachelle) Ripp, Michelle (Tyler Becker) Apland, Richie (Courtney) Maly, Jordan (Emily Friese) Ripp, Jason Ripp; and eight great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Dick; daughter, Laurie Maly; stepdaughter, Beth Breunig; sisters, Syvera Wipperfurth, Verena (Wilfred) Grosse; brother, Werner (Mary Ann) Wipperfurth, Jr.
A memorial service will be held on Friday, July 8, 2022, at 11:00 a.m. at St John’s Catholic Church, 209 South St in Waunakee. Friends may call at the church on Friday from 9:30 a.m. until the time of services. Burial will take place in the church cemetery
A special thank you to the wonderful staff at Homestead Living, especially Sara who so lovingly cared for Mary Ann and Jenni. Also, to Agrace Hospice Care, Monsignor James Gunn, and Dr. William Ranum. In lieu of flowers, the family will determine a memorial at a later date.
