Mason Howell

December 31, 1949 — March 1, 2016

Mason T. Howell, age 66, passed away peacefully in the arms of his wife, Mary Lou, and daughter, Mandy, on March 1, 2016 at the UW Hospital, Madison, Wisconsin. For the last year and a half Mason fought a form of blood cancer, known as MDS. He was born on December 31, 1949 in Oakland, California. He was the son of Harold and Albertine Howell.
Mason grew up in Shreveport, LA with his four sisters and one brother and shared many fond childhood memories with them. Mason was drafted into the Army in 1971. After the Army he enrolled at LSU in Baton Rouge and he received a bachelor degree. He worked for over twenty years at United Airlines as a computer programmer in Denver, Colorado. Mason met his wife, Mary Lou, at work and they were married June 30, 1984 in Wheeling, IL. (Mary Lou grew up in Illinois) Their only child, a daughter, Mandy, was born April 28, 1987 in Denver.
Mason was a charming Southern gentleman full of life and love. He once said he wanted his reported cause of death to be "Joy." He was a caring son, brother, uncle, husband, and father. He will be missed by many.
Mason was very passionate about his interests. In order of significance; his family, his faith in Jesus, genealogy, fly fishing and geocaching.
He is survived by his wife, Mary Lou, daughter, Mandy Johnson (James), sisters, Peggy Wolcott (John), Sissy Folse-Oxley, and Liz Baldwin (John), and brother, Stephen Campbell (Sylvia), brother-in-law, Mike Willingham, and 5 nephews, 12 nieces, 11 grandnephews and 7 grandnieces.
Preceded in death by his father, Harold D. Howell, mother, C. Albertine Clark, and sister, Mary Jane Willingham.
A private service was held March 4, 2016. Friends and family may meet at 9:00 AM on Monday, June 20, 2016 at Fort Logan National Cemetery, 4400 Kenyon Ave, Denver, CO 80236 to bring Mason to his final place of rest.
