Matthew Walrack

Sun Prairie-Matthew Allen Walrack, age 79, went to his heavenly reward after a long life of service to his family and community. His last hobby was recycling aluminum cans which he did rain or shine. He was a familiar sight walking in Sun Prairie over the years.



Matt was born on June 13, 1931 in Blanchardville, WI, the first son of Helen and Dewey Walrack. He attended school in Hollandale, WI. He was gainfully employed all of his life, first as a farm worker with Milo Swanson and later worked at the feed mill in New Glarus. He worked at E.P. McMahon & Sons for 30 years before retiring. He was a real hard worker and he made many friends on the job. The family would like to thank all of the people who were kind to Matt over the years, helping to keep him employed in construction. Matt loved his wife and sons, enjoyed baseball and football, Zane Grey western novels and trips to Texas with his wife, Ann.



Matt is survived by his wife of 40 years, Ann Fisher Walrack, their sons, Matthew Allen, 39, David Michael, 29 and Joseph Anthony, 22. Matt is also survived by his sisters, Gloria Mastandrea of Buffalo Grove, IL and Katharine Diamond of Pensacola, FL; brothers Keith (Sylvia) Walrack of Madison and Steve (Jean) Walrack of Lake Geneva; mother-in-law Lillian Fisher and her children David, Harry and Dorothy and numerous other relatives. Matt was preceded in death by his parents, his wife's sister Ethel; brother-in-law Vincent; niece Sandy; nephews Tommy and Brain Walrack; father-in-law David Fisher; and brother Stanley.



The family would like to thank the staff of Columbus Nursing Home who provided excellent medical care and a home away from home over the past 2 years for Matt.



A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, October 15, 2011 at Sacred Hearts of Jesus and Mary Catholic Church, 221 Columbus Street, Sun Prairie. A luncheon will follow after the burial at Gus's Dinner. A visitation will be held from 4 p.m.-7 p.m. on Friday, October 14, 2011 at Cress Funeral Home, 1310 Emerald Terrace, Sun Prairie. Please help us in celebrating Matt's life.
