Maybelle Louella Riach

January 21, 1909 — February 6, 2009

Maybelle L. (Hanson) Riach, age100, passed away on February 6, 2009. Maybelle was born in 1909 in Platte, South Dakota, to Leonard and Anna (Nelson) Hanson. She graduated with a degree in elementary and secondary education from South Dakota State University, and taught in a one-room school for two years. In 1936, Maybelle married Keith Riach in Rochester, Minnesota, and son Robert was born in 1938. During World War II, Keith was stationed in California, where they stayed until moving to Virginia, Minnesota, after the war. Daughter Laurie was born in 1950. Keith retired in 1969, and they spent nine happy years in Green Valley, Arizona. Keith died in 1978 and Maybelle moved to Madison, Wisconsin, to be near her daughter. Laurie's children, Zach, Rory, and Cara, were the joy of her life. Maybelle also enjoyed international travel, creative writing, a brisk daily walk, and her friends at the Normandy Apartments. She is survived by her daughter Laurie (Scott) McCallum, and their children Zach, Rory, and Cara; and her son Robert and his sons Kevin and Ryan of Arizona. She was preceded in death by her husband Keith; her parents; and her sisters, Peggy and Helen and brother, Leo. Maybelle's family would like to thank the staff at Willow Pointe Assisted Living Center, and HospiceCare, for their kind and patient care. Cress Funeral Home is handling the arrangements for the family. No memorial service is planned. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Maybelle's name to the Aidmatrix Foundation, 11701 Luna Road, Dallas, Texas 75234 (or online at aidmatrix.org); or to a charity of one's choice.
