Moreton, Melverne M. Deerfield-Melverne M. Moreton, 73, of Deerfield, died on Saturday, March 14, 2009 at the Karmenta Center in Madison, following a long struggle with cancer, which she conducted with grace and courage. Mel was born on June 19, 1935 at the Allen family farm in Medina Township near Marshall to Robert and Jeanette Allen. She graduated from Marshall High School in 1954, worked as a payroll clerk in Waterloo, and later as a waitress at the Italian Village in Madison, before marrying Michael T. Moreton of Buffalo, N.Y. on September 27, 1958. She worked as a waitress, drove school bus, worked in tobacco harvest, and later retired as a mail clerk at Madison Newspapers. Â Mel enjoyed bowling and was a long time member of the Madison Women's Bowling Association Board of Directors and the ""600 Club"". She was a great NASCAR fan (Matt Kenseth, of course) and enjoyed watching the Packers and Brewers. Mel played on a women's softball team while at MNI. She and Mike traveled extensively through the United States, Canada, and Europe, often with a grandchild in tow. Mel was a loving and generous wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and friend. She is greatly missed. Mel is survived by her husband Mike, of Deerfield; daughter Toni Qualmann, of Marshall and her friend Dale Anton; son Robert (Ruth) Moreton of Seligman, Mo.; grandchildren Jeremy (Sherri) Qualmann of Green Bay, Justin Qualmann of Black River Falls, Rachel (Tyson) Zarnstorff, of Cave Spring, Ar., Shonda Qualmann of Deerfield, and Russell (Brandi) Moreton of Bentonville, AR.; great-grandchildren Natasha and Nicole, of Cave Spring, AR., Eli and Kadyn, of Green Bay, Austin and Braden, of Bentonville, Ar.; sister, Martha Dallman, of Ellsworth; sisters-in law, Elsie Hutchison, of Niagara Falls, Ontario, Canada, Nancy Crout, of Phoenix, AZ.; brother-in-law, Patrick Moreton, of Queen Creek, AZ., and many cousins, nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, Robert and Jeanette Allen, of Portland; in-laws, Albert and Anna Moreton, of Buffalo, N.Y., son-in-law Robert Qualmann, of Marshall, brothers-in-law Kenneth Dallman, of Waterloo, Albert Moreton, of Portland, Or., Donald Moreton, of Niagara Falls, N.Y., and John Moreton, of Derby, N.Y.; and many aunts and uncles. Â Memorial services will be held on Saturday, March 21, 2009 at 11:00 am at St. Patrick's Catholic Church, 434 N. Main St., Cottage Grove, with Monsignor Raymond Kertz officiating.
