Melvin S. Alme

Stoughton – Melvin S. Alme, age 95, passed away on Sunday December 15, 2024. He was born February 3, 1929, in Edgerton to the late Erick and Amy (Hermanson) Alme. He graduated from Stoughton High School in 1946. Melvin served his Country in the Army during the Korean War. He married Tootsie Erickson on October 28,1961 in Galena, Illinois. He and Tootsie bought their farm in 1961 and farmed their entire lives in the Town of Dunkirk. He is a lifelong member of First Lutheran Church, the Sons of Norway and Member of the Otis Sampson American Legion Post 59 and the Stoughton VFW Post #328.

Melvin is survived by his children David (Jodi Halverson) Alme, Ann Hans, John (Luann) Alme, Mary Zimmerman; grandchildren Melanie Alme, Austin (Jess) Alme, Carrie (Dave) Glick, Krissy (Zach) Baird, Jamie (Jarren) Russell, Renee (JD) Sutkay, Jenna (Andy) Gaastra, Carly Zimmerman, Aaron (Bre Viken) Zimmerman; great grandchildren Betsy and Eve Glick, Everett, Emerson, and Eliza Baird, Olivia and Hazel Sutkay, Mason and Faye Gaastra; he is further survived by nieces, nephews and other relatives and friends and his dog Heidi.

He is preceded in death by his wife Tootsie, his parents, brother Edgar (Berdine) Alme, sister Marion (Merle) Gjertson, son-in-law Rich Zimmerman

A funeral service will be held at 11:00 AM on Monday December 23, 2024, at FIRST LUTHERAN CHURCH, 310 E. Washington Ave. Stoughton with Rev. Dick Halom presiding. Burial will be at Riverside Cemetery with Military Honors. Visitation will be from 2:00 PM – 4:00 PM on Sunday December 22, 2024, at Cress Funeral Home, 206 W. Prospect St. Stoughton, and also from 10:00 AM until the funeral on Monday at the church.

In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to First Lutheran Church, or to the charity of one’s choice in memory of Melvin.
