Melvin ""Mike"" Elvekrog

Stoughton-Melvin ""Mike"" Elvekrog died peacefully at Stoughton Hospital on Saturday, February 21, 2009.   Mike was born to Kristin and Johanna (Lien) Elvekrog on April 11, 1921, the fifth of six children.   Mike farmed all his life in the township of Rutland.   He married Clarice Reigle on September 20, 1975.   Together they enjoyed many years of traveling.   Mike enjoyed going dancing and playing cards.   He was proud to be part of the ""paint the boat"" card club for over fifty years.   Mike is survived by his wife, Clarice; two daughters, Cathy (Jim) Hayes of Janesville and Colleen (Tommy) Dyrseon of Stoughton; four grandchildren, Joey (Melissa) Hayes of Milwaukee, C.J. (Andrea) Hayes of Evansville and Taylor and Cael Dyreson of Stoughton; three great granddaughters, Meghan, Emily and Lilly Hayes of Milwaukee.   Mike is further survived by sister, Anna Schulz of Stoughton; sisters-in-law, Pearl and Ingeborg Elvekrog; and brother-in-law, Donald Visaas, all of Stoughton; and many nieces and nephew.   He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Oscar and Henry; sisters, Josie and Clara; and great grandson, J.J. Hayes.   Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM on Wednesday, February 25, 2009 at First Lutheran Church, 310 Washington Avenue, Stoughton, with Rev. Richard Halom officiating.   Burial will follow in Riverside Cemetery.   Visitation will be held from 5:00 PM until 7:00 PM on Tuesday, February 24, 2009 at the Olson-Holzhuter-Cress Funeral Home in Stoughton.  Those planning an expression of sympathy may wish to choose a memorial in lieu of flowers.
