Martinsville - Melvin "Mel" G Meier age 84 passed away peacefully on Thursday October 16th 2014 at home with his loving family by his side. He was born on November 16th 1929 to John and Mary (Wagner) Meier in Middleton.
He married the love of his life, Elda L Griswold on November 24th 1951 at St. Bernard's Catholic Church in Middleton, WI by Father Mack and Father Laverne Endres and would have celebrated their 63rd wedding anniversary in Nov. Mel farmed his entire life. He started his early years farming with his dad then in 1954 Mel and Elda bought a farm on Kick-A-Boo Rd in the Town of Springfield where they still reside.
In addition to farming Mel enjoyed many sports activities and he always enjoyed a good game of cards with his friends. Mel always had a great sense of humor even in his final days. Mel was a wonderful Christian, husband, friend, father, grandfather and great-grandfather as well as a role model to many. He loved babies and was blessed with many over the years.
Mel is survived by his wife Elda, 9 Children Bonnie (Bob Pawlak), Tom (Kay), Russ (Mona Golackson), Ken (Lisa), Barb (Rick Kalscheur), Diane (Dave Reible), Chuck (Carol), Pat (Rachel), and Jerry (Jodie). He is also survived by 18 grandchildren, 16 great grandchildren plus one more due in November. Mel is also survived by sisters Susan Lehman, Betty Schroeder, Ann May (Bill), Mary Kempfer (Fred) one brother Bill Meier (Betty) and sister in law Tress Meier.
Mel was preceded in death by his parents John and Mary Meier, his brother Eugene Meier, son in law Bob Acker and in laws Ernie Lehman, Warren Schroeder and Martha Meier.
Funeral Services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday Oct 22nd 2014 at St Martin's of Tours,5959 St Martin's Circle, Martinsville WI with Father Brian Dulli and Father Laverne Meier will concelebrate the Mass. Visitation will be held Tuesday Oct 21st at St Martin's of Tours church from 4:00 pm until 7:00 pm or until the cows come home. Friends may also call at the church on Wed from 10:00 a.m. until the time of services. Burial will take place in the church cemetery. A very special thank you to everyone from Agrace HospiceCare for their wonderful and compassionate care for Mel.
