Merle S. Sweet

Merle Sweet, age 81, passed away early on September 13, 2024, (the 10th of Elul 5784), at home in Madison, Wisconsin. The funeral will take place on Sunday, September 15th at 1:00 PM at Cress Funeral Home on 3610 Speedway Road, in Madison followed by burial at Forest Hill Cemetery. Merle was a Madison native and graduate of Madison Central High School, who received his undergraduate Elementary Education degree from the University of Wisconsin-LaCrosse, and his doctorate in Education Administration from the University of Wisconsin-Madison. He taught or was a principal in the Madison Metropolitan School District for more than 30 years, including stints at Allis, Randall (twice), Lincoln, Sandburg, and Falk Elementary Schools. He was also exceptionally proud to have been the inaugural principal of the Madison Jewish Community Day School.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Meyer and Beatrice, and survived by his siblings Ron and Roberta, wife of 57 years, Patricia, sons Mitchell (Tammy) and Martin (Anat), and grandchildren Max, Elli, Solomon, and Leo.
