MADISON-Merlin C. "Merle" Goth, died peacefully at his home on Tuesday, Feb. 3, 2015, with his family by his side. He was born on Jan. 5, 1928, in Madison, the son of Clarence and Josephine (Kempfer) Goth. Merle was a veteran of World War II and served with the occupation troops in Korea. He was employed with Oscar Mayer for 33 years. He was married to Lois Carpenter in 1948, and she preceded him in death in 1965. On April 22, 1978, Merle married Angie Statz. He enjoyed volunteering for several organizations in the Dane County Area. In his spare time, he enjoyed traveling, reading (mostly biographies and autobiographies), listening to most types of music, and watching the stock market.
Merle is survived by his wonderful and caring wife and partner, Angie; two sons, Norm and Scott; four step-children, Ramona Whiteaker, Steve Statz, Linda (James) Williams, and Karen Estep; 12 step-grandchildren; 11 step-great-grandchildren; two sisters, Carol Damson and Vera Carpenter; and five brothers, Sheldon (Freda), Ronald (Hazel), Gary (Claudette), Delmar (Rosie), and Howard (Lorraine). He was preceded in death by his first wife, Lois; son, Larry; daughter-in-law, Mary; sister, Shirley; and brothers-in-law, Bill Heath and Paul Damson.
Family and friends may gather at CRESS FUNERAL HOME, 3325 E. Washington Ave., Madison from 10 a.m. until 12 p.m. on Monday, Feb. 9, 2015 with military honors at noon.
