Merry J. Damrow

Merry J. (Haberkorn) Damrow passed away on Saturday, August 31, 2024 at UW Hospital at the age of 80.

Merry was born in Fond du Lac on April 14, 1944 to George and Lucille (Krug) Haberkorn. She married John W. Damrow in Fond du Lac on June 30, 1973.

Merry was a 1962 graduate of L.P. Goodrich High School in Fond du Lac. She was employed for 50 years as a secretary/bookkeeper for Attorney Raymond Colwin and his associates over the years for Sager & Colwin, S.C. including his son, David Colwin, whom she regarded as her brother. She retired in 2012.

In 1976, Merry and John moved to the country outside St. Peter, WI in a home built by John and his part-time employer, Karst Builders. John was a full-time Fond du Lac County police officer and passed away in 1998. Merry enjoyed many years of country life including visits from the deer and wild turkeys. In 2015, Merry moved to Sun Prairie. Merry and John were very active in Lions Club activities with special interest in Leader Dogs and Lions Eye Bank.

Merry enjoyed golfing, playing cards with friends and at the family reunion with her cousins, crafting, and beading with her “Beading Buddies.” She also enjoyed working on jigsaw puzzles and making decorated holiday cookies. Merry was an avid Badger fan. She followed the football team with her sister, Jeanette, to several bowl games in Florida and Hawai’i, and attended two Rose Bowl games in Pasadena, CA.

Merry is survived by her sisters Jeanette Fumelle and Sharon Haberkorn (fiancé Dan Duchrow), niece Jessica (Chad) Nickerson and their children grand-nephew Matthew (Jessica) Haberkorn, Caitlin Wegner, Carver Nickerson, and Regan Nickerson. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, sister Bette Vollert, brother Michael Haberkorn, brothers-in-law John Fumelle and Ken Vollert, and sister-in-law LaVon (Haberkorn) Schroeder.

Visitation will be from 9-11:00 AM on Thursday, September 12, 2024 at Cress Funeral Service, 1310 Emerald Terrace, Sun Prairie, WI 53590 with a memorial service to follow at 11:00 AM.  Merry will be brought to her final place of rest in a private service at Estabrooks Cemetery in Fond du Lac at later date.
