Michael S. Alder

Michael Scott Alder, aged 61, of Monona, Wisconsin, passed away peacefully in the early hours of February 25th at University of Wisconsin Hospital.

Mike faced significant challenges due to Cerebral Palsy, which required extensive care throughout his life. Despite these challenges, he found joy in the simple pleasures of life. While living with his parents near Lodi, he found joy in sitting by the large picture windows, watching the abundant wildlife. His mother’s love for birdwatching became one of Michael’s passions, particularly his fondness for hummingbirds and owls. He was also an avid fan of UW Hockey (Go Badgers), loved visiting Olbrich Gardens, and listening to the music of LeAnne Rimes. 

As Mike grew older, he moved to an apartment in Madison. There, he worked part-time at the Department of Corrections for over 20 years. He also met his partner, Kathy, and they formed a loving relationship, celebrating their union in a special ceremony at their church. 

Mike’s ability to live a fulfilling life was made possible by the unwavering support of his parents and a dedicated team of professionals who cared for him throughout his life. His family is deeply grateful for the compassion and assistance provided by these wonderful individuals.

Mike’s surviving siblings are Susan Riesberg, Billings, MT; James Alder, Bozeman, MT; and Robert C. Alder, Easton, PA. Mike was preceded in death by his parents, Robert Trever and Elizabeth Mary Alder of Lodi, WI; his siblings, Steven Mark Alder and Andrea Elizabeth Kreul of Poynette, WI; and his partner, Kathleen Kiefer.

A visitation will be held from 1:00-3:00pm on Saturday, March 8th at Cress Funeral Home in Madison (3610 Speedway Road).
