Michael Earl Horton, age 47, passed away on Thursday, May 07, 2009 at HospiceCare in Fitchburg, WI. Â Michael was born the third of five children in Madison on February 3rd, 1962 to Phinis and Marjorie Horton. Â He graduated from East High School with the class of 1980, after spending some memorable time at Scattergood Friends School in Iowa. Â After graduation he spent many years in Maui, where he wanted to spend the last years of his life. Â He then went on to complete his certification in Commercial Painting, which he took great pride in. Â Aside from how he made a living, he had so many hobbies that brought him great enjoyment; everyone who knew Michael knew of his love for fishing, basketball, boating, and being outside. Â He will be so greatly missed by his parents, Marjorie and Phinis Horton, children Ashley Horton, Samuel Costello, Michael Horton, and Marc Horton, sisters Cindy (Major) Lemon, Lori Horton, and Deidra Horton, brother Derek Horton, niece Crystal Newell, nephews Jason Newell, Tyler Horton, and Shane Horton, many great-nieces and nephews, his former wife and mother of three of his children, Mary Knight, and so many friends who loved him so dearly. Â He is preceded in death by his maternal grandparents, Gladys and Raymond Lewis, paternal grandparents, his aunt Shirley Grant, cousin Gary Olson, and good friends Bruce Brazzel and Virginia Costello. Â Visitation will take place at Mt. Zion Baptist Church, 2019 Fisher St. Madison, WI 53713, on Monday, May 11th at 10am, followed by a Memorial Service at 11am. Â A Celebration of Michael's life will be held at 1pm, after the Memorial, at Tenney Park, a place he loved to fish and have cookouts with friends and family. Â A Memorial Fund has been set up at Summit Credit Union in Madison in Michael's name to help the family create something here in Madison to assure he will never be forgotten. Â We would like to send a special Thank You to all the TLC and Family Medicine nurses at the UW Hospital, as well as the wonderful staff at HospiceCare. Â You've only been gone a short while, but words cannot explain the loss we feel already. Â Always and Forever Michael Earl, you will be loved. Cress Funeral Home
