Michael Kiergaard

Michael Kiergaard, age 49, passed away unexpectedly Thursday, August 18, 2011. Mike was born on December 28, 1961 in Madison, WI. He graduated from the University of Wisconsin-Madison in 2010 with a degree in Botany, and was an avid gardener maintaining a community garden plot in Madison. He enjoyed drawing, especially cartoon figures, and was working on a children's book. Mike had a deep appreciation for nature and the environment. He participated annually in the Midwest Crane Count, and was a passionate supporter of the Sea Shepherd Conservation Society which is an international non-profit organization on the frontlines in the battle to save ocean wildlife. Mike was a gentle soul who loved cats. He especially enjoyed riding the back roads of Wisconsin on his motorcycle with his partner in life, Kelli Koltyn. Mike will be greatly missed. Mike was buried on Wednesday, August 24 in a private memorial service at the Middleton Junction Cemetery.
