Michael Strain

Michael G. ""Mike"" Strain, age 70, passed away peacefully early Sunday morning, Nov. 16 th at the Fitchburg Hospice Center surrounded by loved ones. Mike was born May 23 rd, 1938, the oldest of seven children born to John P. and Cavilla Ann (Helgesen) Strain. Mike graduated from Mt. Horeb High School in 1956 and then enlisted in the U.S. Navy. While stationed in Okinawa he met and married Yoshi Nakamura in 1960. When they returned to Wisconsin they settled in Madison where Mike worked for Lake City Glass. Mike loved being outdoors. Every year he and Yoshi and their dog spent time at a cabin in northern Wisconsin where they enjoyed fishing. Mike also loved golf, gardening and woodworking. Mike was preceded in death by his father John Strain. He is survived by his wife Yoshi, his dog Snoopy, his mother Ann Strain, his brothers and sisters, Sheila Eith, Sue (Marcus) Bovre, Dan (Dawn) Strain, Greg (Sara) Strain, Jack (Gail) Strain, and Deb (Ken) Berg, as well as many nieces and nephews.   There will be a visitation Thursday, November 20 th at 9:30 am with a Memorial Service to follow at 11:00 am at the Cress Funeral Home 3325 E. Washington, Madison. Burial will be at Highland Memory Gardens 3054 Cty Tk BB Madison with military rites to follow.   Mike's family would like to thank all those involved in his cancer treatment this past year and a very special thank-you to the caring staff at the Hospice Center.
