Michael Strangstalien

May 13, 1950 — November 1, 2020

Michael Harlan Strangstalien of Madison, Wisconsin, passed on to the eternal hunting grounds in heaven on November 1, 2020.

Mike was born on May 13, 1950, to parents Harlan Strangstalien and Onota (Huotari) Strangstalien. Mike graduated from Madison East High School in 1968 and then began his career at Oscar Mayer from which he retired after 30 + years of service.

Mike married the love of his life Lynne (Schimming) Strangstalien on September 4, 1971.  Mike and Lynne just celebrated 49 years of marriage and 57 years of friendship.

Mike was the ultimate sportsman. He lived for any activity involving the outdoors; including hunting, fishing, softball and tending to his vegetable garden. His happiest moments were spent with his friends and family in what he called "God's Country," which was his hunting land in the Wisconsin Dells that has been in his family since the 1960's.  It was his own little piece of heaven on earth.  It is also the place he has chosen to have his ashes spread beside his brother, Dan, and other close hunting friends who were like family to him over the years.

Mike was known for his generosity, humor, loyalty, willingness to always lend a helping hand to anyone and his love of sweets.  His grandchildren loved to fish with their grandpa in the summer on Lake Mendota and spend time with him at the farm on the ATV and tire swing. Mike’s family and friends will greatly miss him.

Mike is survived by his wife, Lynne Strangstalien; daughter, Megan Graves; son, Brett Strangstalien; sons-in-law, Alex Graves and Ian Toyozumi; grandchildren, Ian and Elise Graves; and Sisters JoAnn Krohmer and Sherry Breitenfeldt.

Mike was preceded in death by his parents, Harlan and Onota Strangstalien, and brother Daniel Strangstalien.

A celebration of life will be held at his sacred place in “God’s Country” in the summer, when we can all gather again to celebrate Mike. The date and time is to be determined. No services will be held at this time.
