Milford Thompson

April 5, 1926 — June 3, 2012

Stoughton- Milford R. Thompson, age 86, passed away peacefully on Sunday, June 3, 2012 at Skaalen Home. He was born in Elmore, MN on April 5, 1926, the son of Martin and Caroline (Ehrich) Thompson. Milf graduated from Elmore High School in 1943. He enlisted in the U.S. Navy and served during WWII as an Aviation Radio/Gunner Crewman 2nd Class. Milf received his Bachelor and Masters degrees in Education from Mankato State College. He played quarterback for Mankato and was awarded All Conference Honors. Milf taught for 39 years, coached several sports and retired as an Audio/Visual Specialist for Stoughton School District, where he influenced the lives of many students and athletes. He was very active in Stoughton Lions, VFW Post 328, Stoughton Senior Center and enjoyed golfing, fishing, hunting, camping and spending time with family and friends. Milf loved the Stoughton Vikings and the Minnesota Vikings. He is survived by his three daughters, Nancy (Tom) Brown of Neenah, Debra (Larry Riff) Thompson of Glendale, CA and Trudi (Brennan) Johnson of Stoughton; three grandchildren, Alison (fianc�, Derek Sklenar) Tyler of Glendale, CA and Timothy and Sydney Johnson, both of Stoughton; many nieces and nephews; special friend, Jackie Slinde of Fort Atkinson and her family: son, Duane (Lisa) Slinde of Inver Grove Heights, MN and their children, Erin and Erica; and daughter, Dawna (Jeff) Furseth of Stoughton and their children, Cameron and Hannah Furseth. He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Marvin (Bernice), Hervie (Arlene) and Glendon Thompson; and sisters, Etta (Adrian) Hauskins and Berdine (Lloyd) Loge. Memorial services will be held at 11:00 AM on Friday, June 8, 2012 at Christ Lutheran Church, 700 County Road B, Stoughton, with full Military Honors to follow. Friends and relatives are invited to a luncheon in the church cafe. Friends may greet the family from 10:00 AM until the time of services Friday at the church. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Christ Lutheran Church, Skaalen Home, or Stoughton Sports Boosters. The family wishes to thank the outstanding staff of Skaalen, especially Delores, Carrie, Kari and Pastor Koza.
