Mora Lincoln

To My dear friends who knew Aunt Mora:

Mora Himel Lincoln died on Thursday Sept 19 at 2:19 PM had she waited until evening there would have been a full moon in play. Mora turned 104 in July and had a wonderful birthday party with many friends from Madison.

She was born in 1909 in Chicago Illinois (really Park Ridge). Mora had a great education and was a graduate of the University of Wisconsin at Madison. She spent 2 years in Europe she lived in Paris and in Leipzig Germany. Book binding was her focus of study. She had many adventures and recorded them in her diary. She met Garrison Lincoln when she was at the University and married him soon after she arrived home from Europe.

Mora had a passion for flowers Ikebana was her chosen form for arrangements she studied with a Japanese Ikebana Master. She was an active flower arrangement teacher for years.

She loved living in her house on Lake Monona and her favorite place to sit was next to the window looking out on the lake. Her garden was her daily delight, she had flowers growing throughout the summer and always had fresh arrangements during the growing season. In the fall and winter seasons she would plan her garden for the following year.

Mora was an investor and enjoyed the stock market and it idiosyncrasies
She and her husband spent many years studying what and when to invest. She also loved genealogy and researched her husband's family the Lincolns (related to Abe) and then her own family. Mora has been a lifelong learner and she always had a book or two that she was reading.

She is survived by her Brother. Chester Mora Himel, Her niece Mary Ellen Owens, who has been especially close to Mora, She has many nieces, nephews, Grand nieces and nephews and great-grand nieces and nephews who have been in touch over the years and many of whom were present for a 100th birthday party. Mora will be missed by her many friends and care takers. Particularly Diane Rider who has taken care of Mora for 13 years and Mary Lou Burczyk a friend and neighbor for many years.

Since Mora loved the spring, summer and flowers: family and friends will gather next year at Olbrich Gardens for a private remembrance.
